Blue Yeti X
If you are looking for a microphone that can stream and record using just a USB port, then the Yeti X is one of the most user-friendly options available. With no need for additional equipment or complicated software set up, this mic will make an excellent addition to your desk.
- Great sound
- Several pickup patterns
- Flexible recording
- On-mic levels display
- Gain knob
I am in the market for a new microphone. I’ve narrowed my search down to the Blue Yeti and the Blue Yeti X. While both microphones are great, I opted for the more expensive yet-to-be-released model because it had some features that I was looking for. One of these is the USB port, which will allow me to plug into my computer without any additional cords.
The mic also has an interchangeable head so that if something were to happen (like I break it) I can replace it with another one rather than replacing the entire microphone. The other feature is the Bluetooth capabilities so if someone wants me to do a live interview on their phone they can simply pair their phone with mine and we can go right from there!
The sound quality
The Blue Yeti is known for its superior sound quality, and the Blue Yeti X doesn’t disappoint. The audio quality is so good, it’s almost like you’re sitting in a studio recording. I definitely recommend this mic if you’re looking to upgrade your equipment. If you can afford it, the only downside of this microphone is that it doesn’t come with an XLR cable (you’ll have to buy one separately) and they don’t sell them on their site either. For me personally, these two things were no problem as I had spare cables lying around, but some people might not be aware of that fact. All in all, great mic!
Is it a good value?
If you are looking for a more budget-friendly option, the Blue Yeti X is your new best friend. It has all the same features as its big brother but with a smaller price tag. It also comes in some great color options, so it will match your decor or personality. The only downside to this microphone is that it can’t be used with an XLR cable, which would make it perfect for live-streaming and recording podcasts.
The mic is a bit on the heavy side, but not so much that it causes any issues with mobility. The XLR cable does not detach from the mic itself, which would have been a nice feature to have. It has two switches on the front of the body: one for mute and one for selecting between omnidirectional, cardioid, and bidirectional recording patterns.
How it compares to other mics
The Blue Yeti is a USB condenser microphone. It has a tri-capsule technology that includes one of each color: red, green, and blue. The mic’s two capsules are able to capture the full range of sound, while the third capsule helps to minimize unwanted noise. This means it can be used for recording music, podcasts, interviews, and more. What sets it apart from other mics? The most popular feature of this microphone is the ability to switch between three polar patterns – omnidirectional (all directions), cardioid (front), or bidirectional (back).
